Requirements

Vaccinations

All dogs must be vaccinated with Rabies (1 or 3 year), Distemper/Parvo (1 or 3 year), Canine Influenza, Bordetella (bi annual) and have proof of negative fecal exam performed in the last 6 months.  Dogs needs Bordetella 2 weeks before their visit if they've never had it before. Cats must be fully vaccinated 14 days prior to stay with Rabies, FVRCP and a fecal exam. Owners must provide written proof of current health requirements  from your veterinarian.  Required for the initial enrollment of your pet.

Health

All pets must be in good health and parasite free. All pets will receive an entry level physical exam upon arrival. Animals with fleas will be required to have a flea treatment bath, at the owner’s expense, prior to admission. Owners will also be asked to provide a current record of vaccinations. Signs of existing injury, lameness, or illness will be noted. Owners will certify that their dogs are in good health and have not been ill with a communicable condition in the last 30 days. Dogs that have been ill with a communicable condition in the last 30 days will require veterinarian certification of health prior to being admitted or re-admitted.

Community Play

We offer the opportunity for your dog to participate in our doggie daycare in order to socialize and play with others while staying with us.  The dog must be spayed or neutered if over 7 months old and must not exhibit aggression toward dogs, toys, food, or people.  The dogs will be matched up with a compatible group selected according to age, energy level and size.

Individual Play

Your pet will go outside in our fenced 6 ft high yard with a staff member to relieve themselves, play ball and receive individual attention on their own away from the other guests.  Animals that are intact, or are not compatible with other dogs will automatically fall into this category.  Families of Dogs (from the same household) are allowed to go out together in this fashion as well.

Behavior Assessment

If you elect to group or community play, your dog’s behavior will be assessed by our staff in order to maintain a safe group of community play. For Doggie Daycare, we will test your animal to ensure that he is non aggressive towards other dogs, toys, people, or food.  We want to provide an enriching experience for all involved to safely play and exercise together in this program.

Animal Management and Behavior

We do our best to make sure that your pet is comfortable and their needs are met in an appropriate manner.  We enjoy playing and spending time with and caring for your animals.  We do handle our animal guests with the utmost respect, creativity, and understanding of their unique personalities.  However, if your dog shows aggression or is otherwise confrontational to a degree with behavior that is unsafe to handle with normal procedure toward our staff members or volunteers, we reserve the right to use appropriate restraint with muzzles, humane non electronic training collars (gentle leaders), or refuse services to that animal.

Veterinary and Emergency Care

If the pet becomes ill, or the state of the animal’s health requires professional attention, we reserve the right to engage the services of a veterinarian, give medications if ordered, or give other requisite attention to your pet and the expenses thereof shall be paid by the owner in full. This will include a $10 Vet transportation charge.

Fostering Pets

Deployment for Soldiers with Pets can sometimes be challenging. We know that your pet is your family member and relies on you for their care and needs. It is important that along with your other steps in deployment readiness, you consider and execute an Animal Care Plan for your pets. They need to be in a safe, responsible home environment for the duration of your time overseas. For the welfare of the animals, long term boarding is not a good option for animals. Fort Stewart Pet Boarding Facility will only board pets up to 90 days. However, we recommend Soldiers to contact one of the following organizations if a foster family is needed. Many are free services and provide information and tips on how to make this process easier. Families that are not deploying but interested in helping their fellow Soldiers can sign up in these organizations as a foster family as well.

Pet Foster Plan Tips & Recommendations

Spay or neuter your animal.

  • This alleviates issues with unwanted breeding and socializing problems within the caretaker’s home.

Health requirements and History:

  • Make sure your pet is current on all vaccines needed.
  • Provide the caretaker with the current records.
  • Provide a complete health history and current medications, allergies, heartworm and flea prevention information.
  • Provide your veterinarian’s contact information.
  • Contact your vet to inform them and sign any releases for your caretaker to obtain medical decisions for the welfare of your pet.

Personality Profile

  • Provide a detailed history about your pet’s temperament, social skills, training, habits, fears, and particular needs.

Permanent Identification

  • Tag and microchip your pet. Be sure to have all rabies, pet license, and identification tags on the animal to include the caretaker’s contact information.

Written Financial and Care taking Agreement

Sign with your caretaker a formal written agreement covering issues such as:

  • Monetary payment of routine expenses (food, grooming , toys, supplies, and maintenance vet care)
  • Return of ownership after estimated period of time
  • Emergency medical bills and level of pursuit of treatment/euthanasia
  • Any injuries occurring to the pet or death while in foster care.
  • Contingency plans if Owner or Caretaker can no longer care for the pet, Communication plan, photos, correspondence
