CYSS Pre-K Program

Georgia’s Pre-K Program: Provides activities and learning experiences that help prepare young children for school. For a child to be school ready, it means they are socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively prepared for success in kindergarten. The program helps children become independent, self-confident, and enthusiastic learners. Participation in the program encourages children to develop good habits and daily routines early in their educational career. Parents please view/print the GA Pre-K program handbook here!

Annual Pre-K Lottery Drawing is held on the first Thursday in April. The initial available spaces are filled from the applicants selected in the initial lottery drawing. Applicants who register on or after the drawing day are placed on the waiting list in order of registration.

The CYS Pre-Kindergarten Program is funded entirely by the Georgia State Lottery and is considered to be one of the finest educational programs in the nation. The Fort Stewart CYS on-post program currently offers 6 classrooms: a maximum of 22 spaces per class. Because there are always more children seeking spaces in Prekindergarten than there are spaces available,  a lottery process is the fairest method of filling our classes.

  • Students must be four years of age on or before 01 September of current year - NO EXCEPTIONS!
  • Sponsor must be DoD I.D. cardholder (Active Duty or DoD Civilian/Contractor assigned to installation)
  • The program is voluntary; daily student attendance is required!
  • The Pre-K program operates for 6.5 hours per day: 8:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Monday-Friday.
  • The core instructional program is free of charge.
  • Before and After School on site care is available (at the parent’s expense).
  • All children must be registered with Child & Youth Services to participate in the Fort Stewart CYS Pre-K program.

Required documents:

  •   Original Birth Certificate
  •   Proof of Eligibility (DoD  I.D. Card)
  •   Pre-K Application

Additional forms are required for registering with CYS Services. Families will be notified if their child’s name was drawn in the lottery process. All children not chosen will be placed on a waiting list until spaces become available.

Hourly Care Program (CDC Only)

Hourly reservations for CDC's can be scheduled in person, by phone and online at WebTrac for registered CYS members. Reservations may be made up to three weeks in advance, but are not to exceed 25 hours in one week. If reservations must be cancelled, please call no later than 8 a.m. the day of the reservation or two hours before start of requested care. Patrons may make/cancel reservations online 24 hours prior to the day of the reservation.

In an effort to provide quality service to all of our patrons, all CYS child care policies must be enforced by each program. Patrons are responsible for any charges incurred with requested hourly care. A “No-Show” fee will be assessed to any household who is late or does not show for their reserved time for care. Repeat “No-Shows” will be reported to the CYS Coordinator. Payment for all hourly care services is due at the time of service.

The cost for hourly care is $4 per hour, charged at 30-minute increments. A minimum of one-hour ($4) is charged for hourly care. In order to accommodate the current demand for hourly care, children must be picked up promptly at their scheduled reservation time. If you are running late for your pickup time, please call the facility to ensure space is available for your child to remain at the center. Children who remain in care after their scheduled time or after close of business will be assessed a late pickup fee of $1 per minute. After 15 minutes, an additional fee of $5 will be charged to the household for each child remaining in care (total of $2 late fee + hourly care fees are due at pickup). Patrons are charged at a rate of $5 an hour for care provided past the scheduled pickup time. Meals and Snacks will be provided at scheduled times.

Babysitter Referral Services

Looking for a Teen Babysitter? Looking to be a Teen Babysitter? CYS offers training following the 4-H babysitter curriculum in becoming a certified Teen Babysitter. Teen military family members in grades 7 and up who wish to to expand and market themselves for babysitting jobs can be placed on the babysitter's referral list with parent permission.

Military parents needing babysitters must complete a request form located at Parent Central Services. Once parents complete the required form, they will receive a list of babysitter information based on specified requirements (location, availability, etc). After receiving a list of babysitters, parents can make arrangements directly with the babysitter. All arrangements and fees for care are between the parent and babysitter.

CYS offers Babysitting Referral Services for registered families. Babysitters on the referral list are 13 years or older, have certification in First Aid and CPR, and are trained in:

  • Developmentally appropriate play
  • Recognition of child abuse/neglect
  • Emergency procedures and interviewing

Stop by Parent Central Services or go back to the Register section to find out more information.

Volunteer Child Care in Unit Settings (VCCUS) VCCUS is a volunteer-based childcare program that allows for on-site care during meetings and events organized by military units, Army Community Service (ACS) groups or Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation. Through VCCUS, Parent & Outreach Services will provide training to volunteers from the military unit or organization. The program is designed to allow the exchange of free and temporary childcare services during unit sessions when the demand is high or when child development center services are not available. Parents and guardians of children in VCCUS must be attending the same function and must remain at the site while their child is under volunteer care.

Customer Reviews

CDC 403:

11/1/18, D McCulloch, I have been completely satisfied with the care my son receives from his teachers in the Pre-K program. All of them deserve recognition, however one has done a job worth mentioning. Her ability to speak to my child in a calming and respectful manor has increased his positive behavior at home. This employee is truly an asset to the Center, the base and the entire Army.

10/25/18, Love Bldg 403 hourly!

CDC 475:

April, 2019: "My husband and I want to recognize Ms. Marlene and Ms. Yolanda in room 129/130. Yolanda goes above and beyond. She cares about our daughter like she is her own daughter and is excited for any and all milestones that she meets. She makes dropping her off for daycare a little easier because we know she will get the best care with them."

April, 2019: "Gena and Brandy are very professional and our child loves to come to rm #123."

March, 2019: "Each staff member, from the maintenance to the front desk and program assistants, all do an amazing job of saying hello and greeting me when I first walk in, and always greet me when I leave, saying have a good evening/weekend etc. It is literally amazing how they always remember to say hello and goodbye. Each person really needs to be commended on how much work it must be to always make sure they are greeting and saying goodbye."

March, 2019: "It is remarkable the heart and love the staff in room 131 and 132 show for their infants and pre-toddlers. The ladies really love their kiddos and miss them when the kids have to relocate to installations or change rooms. As a parent, I can only hope that each day care I put my child in the future has staff that don't just 'look after' kids, but really care about and for the kids."
