DOD Child Care Priority Changes

Updated 23 July

To enable service and mission readiness, a new DOD policy ensures military families will have priority access to child care services beginning Sept. 1, 2020. Military families may supplant lower priority patrons when necessary under terms of HQDA EXORD 231-20.

U.S. Army Installation Management Command oversees Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation programs and services, including 341 Child Development Centers at installations and garrisons worldwide. Child care is a quality of life issue that impacts the Army’s ability to recruit and retain Soldiers. Army Child Development Centers provide the safest child care anywhere, based on standards established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. In addition to CDCs, this policy change also impacts school-age care programs, 24/7 child development centers, family child care homes, and community based fee assistance.

•Enrolled patrons that have been identified to be replaced by higher priority patrons will be given 45 days’ notice to find alternative child care.

•All families, regardless of prioritization, will use MilitaryChildCare.com to request care.

Please see letter below to learn how this may impact you.

If you have any questions, please call FS: (912) 767-2312; HAAF: (912) 315-5425.
